Radial Motions and Radial Gas Flows in Local Spiral Galaxies

چکیده
We determine radial velocities and mass flow rates in a sample of 54 local spiral galaxies by modelling high-resolution high-sensitivity data the atomic hydrogen emission line. found that, although inflow motions seem to be slightly preferred over outflow motions, their magnitude is generally small. Most show flows only few km/s throughout HI disks, either inwards or outwards, without any clear increase outermost regions, as we would expect for continuous accretion. Gas most are less than 1 M$_\odot$/yr. Over entire sample, estimated an average rate 0.3 M$_\odot$/yr outside optical disk 0.1 outskirts disks. These about 5-10 times smaller star formation 1.4 Our study suggests that there no evidence systematic accretion inflows alone could feed sustain process inner regions at its current rate.

Radial distribution of gas and dust in spiral galaxies *
By combining Herschel-SPIRE data with archival Spitzer, H i , and CO maps, we investigate the spatial distribution of gas and dust in the two famous grand-design spirals M 99 and M 100 in the Virgo cluster. Thanks to the unique resolution and sensitivity of the Herschel-SPIRE photometer, we are for the first time able to measure the distribution and extent of cool, submillimetre (submm)-emittin...
متن کاملA Search for Kinematic Evidence of Radial Gas Flows in Spiral Galaxies
CO and H I velocity fields of seven nearby spiral galaxies, derived from radio-interferometric observations, are decomposed into Fourier components whose radial variation is used to search for evidence of radial gas flows. Additional information provided by optical or near-infrared isophotes is also considered, including the relationship between the morphological and kinematic position angles. ...
متن کاملRadial transport of dust in spiral galaxies
Motivated by recent observations which detect dust at large galactocentric distances in the disks of spiral galaxies, we propose a mechanism of outward radial transport of dust by spiral stellar density waves. We consider spiral galaxies in which most of dust formation is localized inside the corotation radius. We show that in the disks of such spiral galaxies, the dust grains can travel over r...
متن کاملMolecular gas in spiral galaxies
The molecular hydrogen content of a galaxy is a key parameter for its activity and future evolution. Its variations with basic properties such as size, mass, morphological type, and environment, the ratio of molecular to atomic gas masses, should provide us with a better view of galaxy evolution. Such studies have been done in the past by Sage (1993a) or the FCRAO group (e.g. Young & Knezek 198...
متن کاملNon radial motions in a CDM model
We show how non-radial motions, originating in the outskirts of clusters of galaxies, may reduce the discrepancy between the Cold Dark Matter (CDM) predicted X-ray temperature distribution function of clusters of galaxies and the observed one and also the discrepancy between the CDM predicted two-point correlation function of clusters of galaxies and that observed. We compare Edge et al. (1990)...
